Make eye-catching butterfly designs that mimic stained glass using foil, bright markers, and an easy-to-follow template. This creative project offers a relaxing, tactile experience while adding a splash of color to any room. It's well suited for both small groups and individual crafting time.

Purpose of the Activity

This project is designed to provide a joyful and calming creative outlet for residents. It encourages self-expression and fine motor skill practice in a low-pressure environment. The tactile nature of working with foil and the visual reward of the vibrant colors can boost mood and provide a sense of accomplishment. Socially, it offers a wonderful opportunity for residents to chat, share memories of nature, and admire each other's unique creations.

Materials Needed

- Heavy-duty aluminum foil: One sheet per participant, approximately 12x12 inches.
- Cardboard squares: One per participant, slightly larger than the foil sheet (e.g., 13x13 inches), to serve as a sturdy work surface.
- Tape: Masking tape or painter's tape to secure the foil to the cardboard.
- Butterfly templates: Simple, bold-lined butterfly outlines printed on standard paper. Offer a few different designs.
- Ballpoint pens or dull pencils: For tracing the design onto the foil.
- Black school glue (like Elmer's) or black puff paint: To create the raised "leading" lines of the stained glass. Regular white glue mixed with black acrylic paint also works.
- Brightly colored permanent markers: A wide assortment of colors.
- Scissors: For cutting out the final butterfly.
- Protective table coverings: Plastic tablecloths or newspaper.
- Paper towels: For any spills.
