This art workshop encourages residents to create their own unique "monster" or Halloween-themed craft using a variety of general supplies like construction paper, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, fabric scraps, and paint. The focus is on imaginative expression and sharing their "monsterpieces" with the group afterwards.
Purpose of the Activity
This activity is designed to spark creativity and provide a fun, low-pressure outlet for self-expression. It encourages social interaction as residents work alongside one another and share their creations. The hands-on nature of the craft helps maintain fine motor skills and dexterity. Most importantly, it is an opportunity for laughter, imagination, and creating something wonderfully unique.
Materials Needed
Prepare a wide assortment of colorful and textural supplies to inspire creativity. Set them out buffet-style so residents can easily see and choose their materials.
Bases: Construction paper, cardstock, paper plates, empty cardboard tubes (from paper towels or toilet paper), small boxes.
Adhesives: Non-toxic craft glue, glue sticks, and tape.
Cutting Tools: Safety scissors for residents.
Decorative Elements: Googly eyes in various sizes, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, yarn, cotton balls, buttons, fabric scraps, felt sheets, colored feathers.
Coloring Tools: Washable markers, crayons, colored pencils, and tempera paint with brushes.
Extras: Hole punch, craft sticks, sequins or glitter (use with caution to manage mess).
Setup: Tablecloths to protect surfaces, small cups for water (if painting), and paper towels for cleanup.
