Our final guest speaker, a community archivist, will show how individual stories come together to form a rich historical record. In our final practice session, we'll apply all our skills by collectively creating a 'story wall'. Residents will write or dictate short story snippets from our sessions onto cards and arrange them on a large timeline, creating a shared, visual tapestry of our community.

Purpose of the Activity

This activity serves as a meaningful conclusion to your storytelling series. It aims to validate each resident's personal history by showing how it contributes to a larger, collective narrative. The purpose is to foster a deep sense of community, celebrate shared experiences, encourage reflection, and create a beautiful, tangible representation of the lives and memories within your residence. It reinforces the idea that every story matters.

Materials Needed

A large, accessible bulletin board or a prominent, empty wall space.
A roll of butcher paper or kraft paper to serve as the backdrop.
Thick markers for drawing the timeline and writing headers.
Colorful index cards or pre-cut pieces of cardstock (at least 4x6 inches).
A variety of pens and fine-tip markers for residents to use.
Push pins or removable mounting putty/tape.
A podium or comfortable seating area for the guest speaker.
A microphone and sound system, if needed for the room size.
Optional: Pre-printed photos of local landmarks from different eras.
Optional: Different colors of yarn or string to connect related stories on the board.
Refreshments like coffee, tea, and cookies for social time afterward.
