Residents will be given cards to write down their personal New Year's resolutions for the coming year. They can then share one or two of their resolutions with the group while enjoying a festive, non-alcoholic sparkling beverage. This fosters reflection and positive social interaction.

Purpose of the Activity

This activity is designed to provide residents with a meaningful way to welcome the new year. It encourages personal reflection and goal setting, which can enhance a sense of purpose and forward-looking optimism. The social sharing component helps build community, strengthens interpersonal connections, and creates a supportive environment where residents can encourage one another. Overall, it promotes cognitive engagement, emotional well-being, and positive social connection.

Materials Needed

Resolution Cards: Index cards or decorative notecards (4x6 inch is a good size).
Writing Utensils: Pens and easy-grip markers.
Sparkling Beverage: Non-alcoholic sparkling cider or sparkling grape juice.
Drinkware: Plastic champagne flutes or other festive cups.
Napkins: Cocktail napkins.
Optional Snacks: Light snacks such as shortbread cookies, cheese and crackers, or a fruit tray.
Optional Music: A playlist of uplifting or classic instrumental music and a speaker.
Optional Collection Box: A decorated box labeled "Our 2024 Resolutions" for residents who wish to submit their cards.

Estimated Duration

45 to 60 minutes. This allows enough time for refreshments, writing, sharing, and unstructured social time.

Ideal Group Size

8 to 15 residents. This size is small enough to feel intimate and allow everyone a chance to speak, but large enough to create a lively social dynamic.
