In this workshop, residents will learn about various poetic forms and explore the themes of maternal love, gratitude, and remembrance. Guided by prompts, they will then have the opportunity to craft short poems or heartfelt messages to mothers (either their own, their children, or the idea of motherhood).

Purpose of the Activity

This workshop is designed to provide a meaningful and emotionally resonant experience for residents. The primary goals are to:

Promote Creative Expression: Offer a safe and supportive outlet for residents to express complex emotions like love, gratitude, and even loss.
Stimulate Cognitive Function: Engage residents in memory recall (reminiscence), learning simple structures, and organizing their thoughts.
Foster Social Connection: Create a shared experience where residents can connect by sharing stories and listening to one another in a respectful environment.
Boost Self-Esteem: Provide a sense of accomplishment as residents create a beautiful, finished piece of writing that they can keep or share.
Acknowledge the Holiday: Offer a gentle and inclusive way to celebrate Mother's Day, recognizing that the holiday holds different meanings for everyone.
