Gather for a warm and engaging storytelling circle focused on favorite autumn and Thanksgiving memories. The activity director will use gentle prompts like, "Describe a favorite holiday dish and who made it," to spark conversation. This is a chance to connect with neighbors by sharing personal stories and traditions.

Purpose of the Activity

This activity is designed to foster a strong sense of community and connection among residents. By sharing personal stories, participants can discover common experiences and build friendships. The act of reminiscence is mentally stimulating and can promote positive feelings by recalling happy life events. It provides a platform for residents to feel heard, valued, and respected for their unique life histories and traditions.

Materials Needed

Seating: Comfortable chairs for all participants.
Atmosphere (Optional): A small centerpiece for a central table, such as a mini pumpkin, a small bouquet of autumn flowers, or a bowl of pinecones.
Prompts: A list of prepared conversation prompts written on index cards or a single sheet of paper.
Talking Piece (Optional): A designated object to pass around, such as a decorative gourd, a smooth stone, or a colorful autumn leaf. This helps signify whose turn it is to speak.
Refreshments (Optional): A festive, simple snack and beverage, such as hot apple cider and oatmeal cookies, or tea and coffee. Include cups, napkins, and sugar or cream if needed.

Estimated Duration

45 to 60 minutes. This allows enough time for multiple people to share without the activity feeling too long.

Ideal Group Size

6 to 12 residents. This size is small enough to feel intimate and ensure everyone who wants to share gets a chance, but large enough to generate a variety of stories.
