Set up an elaborate ice cream sundae bar with a wide array of flavors, syrups, candies, fruits, and whipped cream. Residents can chat and socialize as they design and construct their personalized ultimate sundae, sharing tips and admiring each other's delicious creations.

Purpose of the Activity

This activity is designed to foster a fun, relaxed, and social atmosphere. It encourages resident interaction, promotes personal choice and creativity, and offers a delightful sensory experience. The simple joy of building a sundae can spark conversation, bring back fond memories, and strengthen community bonds.

Materials Needed

Ice Cream & Toppings:
Ice Cream: Provide at least three classic flavors (e.g., Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry). Consider adding a more unique flavor like butter pecan or mint chocolate chip. Include a sugar-free vanilla option.
Syrups: Chocolate, caramel, and strawberry sauce. Hot fudge is always a popular choice.
Fruits: Sliced bananas, fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries), maraschino cherries, and pineapple chunks.
Crunchy & Sweet Toppings: Chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, peanuts), sprinkles (rainbow and chocolate), mini chocolate chips, crushed cookies (like Oreos), M&Ms, gummy bears, and mini marshmallows.
Finishing Touches: Whipped cream (from a can for easy dispensing) and cherries for the top.

Serving Supplies:
Bowls: Sturdy paper or plastic bowls.
Spoons: Plastic or reusable spoons.
Ice Cream Scoops: Have at least two scoops, kept in a container of warm water for easy scooping.
Serving Utensils: Small spoons or tongs for each topping.
Napkins: Plenty of napkins are a must.
Tablecloths: Festive and disposable tablecloths for easy cleanup.
Small Bowls/Containers: For holding each individual topping.
Labels: Small, clearly written labels for each ice cream flavor and topping.

Decorations & Ambiance:
Music: Create a playlist of upbeat, nostalgic music from the 1950s and 60s (think soda shop era).
Decorations: Simple, cheerful decorations like balloons, streamers, or a "Sundae Bar" sign can add to the fun.
