Enjoy a refreshing bus tour to see beautiful late autumn scenery and connect with friends.
Purpose of the activity
This scenic tour is designed to provide residents with a refreshing change of scenery and an opportunity for social connection outside the community walls. The activity promotes sensory stimulation by showcasing the vibrant colors of autumn, encourages reminiscing about past seasons, and helps combat feelings of isolation by fostering a shared, enjoyable experience.
Materials needed
- Transportation: Community bus or van with appropriate accessibility features (e.g., wheelchair lift, low steps).
- Logistics: Resident sign-up sheet, emergency contact information for each participant, and any necessary permission slips.
- Comfort Items: Blankets for warmth, small pillows for back support, and a step stool for easier boarding if needed.
- Refreshments: A cooler with bottled water and a seasonal snack, such as apple cider donuts or soft granola bars. A thermos of warm apple cider is also a wonderful touch.
- Safety: Fully-stocked first aid kit, a charged community cell phone, and hand sanitizer.
- Entertainment: A playlist of gentle, nostalgic music (e.g., big band, classic folk). A list of local landmarks or fun facts about the area.
Estimated duration
90-120 minutes. This includes time for gathering, boarding, the drive itself, and returning to the community.
Ideal group size
6-10 residents, plus 1-2 staff members. A smaller group allows for more personal interaction and makes assisting residents with mobility needs much more manageable.
