Residents will design and assemble small floating flower arrangements using shallow bowls or saucers filled with water, arranging fresh or silk flower heads, small pebbles, and perhaps a few drops of essential oil for aroma. This sensory-rich activity combines gentle crafting with the beauty of nature and aromatherapy, creating a calming and visually pleasing centerpiece that floats gracefully.
Purpose of the Activity
This activity provides a multi-sensory experience that engages sight, touch, and smell. It promotes a sense of purpose and accomplishment, similar to the skill of floral arranging. The gentle, creative process helps reduce stress and anxiety while encouraging self-expression. It also supports fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive functions like planning and decision-making. The finished bowls serve as beautiful, personal decorations that bring nature indoors and can spark joyful reminiscence and conversation.

Decorative Elements: Small, smooth items like polished river stones, glass gems, or sea glass.
Essential Oils: One or two bottles of high-quality, skin-safe essential oils with calming scents like lavender, rose, or chamomile (optional).
Floating Candles: Small, unscented floating candles (optional).
Tools: Scissors or floral snips for trimming flower stems.
Table Protection: Waterproof tablecloths or towels to keep the workspace dry.
Display Area: A safe, visible place for residents to display their finished bowls, such as a windowsill or common area table.
