Encourage residents to dress up in their best German-inspired attire (or provide simple props like hats and scarves) for a fun and lighthearted fashion show. Afterwards, set up a themed photo booth with props like giant pretzels, beer steins, and scenic backdrops for memorable group and individual photos.

Purpose of the Activity

This activity is designed to celebrate the festive spirit of autumn and Oktoberfest in a creative and social way. It provides residents with a wonderful opportunity for self-expression, laughter, and camaraderie. The fashion show encourages confidence and lighthearted fun, while the photo booth creates lasting keepsakes and memories. It promotes social interaction, reduces isolation, and adds a unique and spirited event to the community calendar.

Materials Needed

For the Fashion Show:
A designated "runway" area (can be a simple pathway through the room).
Upbeat German folk music or Polka music playlist.
Sound system or portable speaker.
Microphone for the emcee.
A small collection of German-themed props for residents who do not have their own outfits. Examples include Alpine hats, checkered scarves, braids on a headband, and suspenders.
Small, fun prizes for participants (optional), such as chocolates or themed trinkets.

For the Photo Booth:
A designated backdrop area. This could be a solid-colored wall, a large tablecloth with a German pattern (like blue and white diamonds), or a printed scenic backdrop of the Alps.
A tripod for a smartphone or digital camera. Alternatively, a staff member or volunteer can be the designated photographer.
Good lighting. Position the booth near a window or bring in an extra lamp.
A table to hold the props.
A variety of props. Examples include:
Large inflatable or cardboard pretzels.
Plastic beer steins or mugs.
Funny signs with German phrases like "Prost!" (Cheers!) or "Willkommen".
Accordion cutout.
Felt Alpine hats and flower crowns.
Silly glasses and mustaches.

For Refreshments (Optional):
Root beer or non-alcoholic beer served in steins.
Soft pretzels with mustard.
Apple cider.
Plates, napkins, and cups.
