I want to invite our waitlist people and our new residents to join our resident ambassadors for a getting to know you event. We have also marketed this event to outside prospects. It needs to last about an hour and a half and those who want to can tour at that time. We will have refreshments but I need an activity or a talking point.

Overview

This is a festive, patriotic-themed social event designed to welcome new residents, engage individuals on our waitlist, and attract external prospects. Resident ambassadors will act as hosts, mingling with guests over refreshments and sharing their positive experiences of life in our community. The event includes a simple, interactive icebreaker to encourage conversation, followed by optional community tours. The goal is to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere that showcases our vibrant community spirit.

Purpose of the Activity

The primary purpose is to foster connections and build a sense of community. For prospects and waitlist members, this event provides a low-pressure opportunity to experience the community's social environment and meet current residents. For new residents, it serves as a warm welcome and a chance to make new friends. For resident ambassadors, it is an opportunity to take on a leadership role and share their love for their home.

Materials Needed

- Decorations: Old books, antique candle holders with flameless candles for the food table. Flowers, doilies, and small American flags for centerpieces, patriotic banners, flowers and bunting for the table arch over the food.
- Refreshments: Iced tea, lemonade, a variety of teas to brew as well as a blooming tea pot, water with lemon slices, coffee. A selection of light snacks such as cucumber finger sandwiches, macaroons, patriotic charcuterie board and tea bag cookies decorated with real flowers.
- Tableware: Colonial. Deep red tablecloths with burlap table runners. Blue toile disposable plates, cups and napkins.
- Welcome Station: A small table near the entrance with a sign-in sheet, pre-printed name tags for all guests (including residents), and a small bowl of patriotic lapel pins or ribbons for guests to take.
- Activity Supplies: "Stars and Stripes Search" icebreaker cards (one per person, see step-by-step guidance for details), pens or pencils.
