Using little equipment, I want to create an Escape Room experience using challenges for team agility, balance, power, mobility, hand-eye coordination and cardiovascular training to receive the next clue.
Purpose of the activity
This activity is designed to provide a fun, engaging, and purposeful physical challenge for independent living residents. By framing exercise as a "secret mission," it encourages enthusiastic participation. The primary goals are to enhance functional fitness by targeting agility, balance, power, mobility, and hand-eye coordination in a social, team-based environment. It also stimulates cognitive skills through problem-solving and following clues, promoting a holistic sense of well-being.
Materials needed
5-6 envelopes, numbered sequentially
Paper and a pen to write clues and challenge instructions
A "Top Secret" folder for the initial mission briefing
4-6 beanbags or other soft, easy-to-grip balls
A bucket, laundry basket, or large bowl to serve as a target
Painter’s tape or masking tape
A stopwatch or a phone with a timer function
Sturdy, armless chairs (one for each participant, if possible)
A small lockbox and a key
"Mission Accomplished" certificates or a small, healthy prize (like fruit, granola bars, or bottled water)
A portable speaker for background music
Estimated duration
45 to 60 minutes.
Ideal group size
4 to 8 participants. This size is large enough for a team dynamic but small enough to ensure everyone is actively involved at each station.
