Residents will participate in a series of fun, modified "Olympic" events designed to engage different muscle groups. This might include chair high-jumps (standing to reach an object), seated "shot put" with soft balls, and a walking relay race around the common area. The focus is on participation and good-natured competition, with plenty of laughter and encouragement.

Purpose of the Activity

The Golden Olympics is designed to promote physical fitness in a fun and social setting. It encourages residents to engage in gentle exercise that improves balance, strength, and coordination. Beyond the physical benefits, this activity fosters a sense of community, encourages teamwork, and boosts self-esteem by celebrating participation and effort over winning. It is a wonderful way to create lasting memories and share plenty of laughs.

Materials Needed

- Sturdy, armless chairs for participants
- Soft foam balls or beanbags (for "Shot Put")
- A pool noodle and lightweight hula hoops (for "Noodle Javelin")
- A long ribbon or crepe streamer attached to a lightweight stick (for "Chair High-Jump")
- Lightweight batons (can be rolled-up magazines or paper towel tubes) for the relay
- Cones or floor markers to designate the course for the walking relay
- A music player with an upbeat, encouraging playlist (e.g., classic rock, movie theme songs)
- A "finish line" made from crepe paper or tape
- DIY medals (gold-painted paper plates with ribbons) or certificates for all participants
- A hydration station with water, cups, and perhaps some healthy snacks like orange slices
- A whiteboard or poster board to list the events
- Scorecards (optional, for fun tracking)

Estimated Duration

- Total Time: 60-75 minutes
- Setup: 15 minutes
- Activity: 45-60 minutes
- Cleanup: 10 minutes

Ideal Group Size

- 10 to 20 residents. This size is large enough for a fun relay race but small enough to ensure everyone gets attention and can participate safely at each station.
