Residents take turns rolling a single die, moving their marker (e.g., a colored pom-pom or large button) along a simple, drawn-out path on a poster board. The goal is to be the first to reach the "Garden Gate" at the end of the path, fostering a gentle, luck-based race with a satisfying visual progression.
Purpose of the Activity
This simple and cheerful game is designed to bring residents together for a lighthearted social experience. It encourages friendly competition while promoting cognitive skills like counting and turn-taking. The activity also provides gentle physical engagement through handling game pieces and rolling the die, and its garden theme can spark positive memories and conversations.
Materials Needed
One large white or light-colored poster board.
Thick, colorful markers for drawing the game path and decorations.
A variety of large game markers for residents to choose from. Good options include large, colorful buttons, oversized pom-poms, painted stones, or laminated paper shapes.
One large, easy-to-read die. A foam or lightweight wooden die is ideal for easy handling.
A small, shallow box or tray to serve as a "dice rolling tray," which helps prevent the die from falling onto the floor.
