Brief Overview

Shift your perspective by focusing on the good that surrounds you every day. We will explore the profound impact of gratitude through shared stories and by collectively creating a beautiful community 'Gratitude Tree' with handwritten leaves. Residents will practice techniques to build this powerful habit.

Purpose of the Activity

This activity is designed to enhance the emotional and spiritual well-being of residents by fostering a positive outlook. The core purpose is to encourage mindfulness and reflection on the good things in life, which can lead to increased happiness, reduced stress, and a stronger sense of community. By sharing personal stories of gratitude, residents build deeper social connections. The physical act of writing and creating the tree provides a gentle, creative outlet and a lasting visual reminder of the collective joy within the community.

Materials Needed

For the Tree:
Several large, sturdy branches from outside, or artificial branches from a craft store.
A large, heavy-bottomed vase or pot to hold the branches securely.
Sand, decorative stones, or floral foam to weigh down the base and hold the branches in place.
For the Leaves:
Cardstock paper in various colors (e.g., autumn tones, spring pastels, etc.).
Leaf-shaped templates or craft punches for tracing and cutting. Pre-cut paper leaves are a great time-saver.
A single-hole punch.
Twine, thin ribbon, or ornament hooks for hanging the leaves.
For Writing and Discussion:
A variety of fine-tip pens and markers that are easy to read.
Optional: A whiteboard or flip chart and markers to write down shared themes.
Optional: Gentle, instrumental background music.
For Hospitality:
Water, coffee, tea, and light refreshments like cookies or fruit.
