Residents sit in a circle, and each person takes a turn sharing three statements about themselves: two truths and one made-up "tall tale." After they share, a soft, lightweight ball (like a beach ball or beanbag) is gently tossed to another resident who guesses which statement was the tall tale. This encourages active listening and light physical engagement. Beach THEME. Come in hats, glasses, flip flops, fun beach attire and play beach music.

Activity Overview

Activity Title: Two Truths and a 'Tall Tale' Toss
Brief Description: Residents sit in a circle, and each person takes a turn sharing three statements about themselves: two truths and one made-up "tall tale." After they share, a soft, lightweight ball is gently tossed to another resident who guesses which statement was the tall tale. This encourages active listening and light physical engagement.
Level of Care: Independent Living
Activity Type: Physical
Ideal Months: August
Theme: Beach Party! Come in hats, glasses, flip flops, fun beach attire and play beach music.

Purpose of the Activity

This activity is designed to be more than just a game. It serves several key purposes for resident well-being:

Social Connection: It provides a structured, low-pressure way for residents to share personal stories and learn surprising new things about their neighbors, strengthening community bonds.
Cognitive Stimulation: The game challenges memory, creativity, and deductive reasoning as residents craft their own statements and work to figure out which of their friends' stories is the tall tale.
Light Physical Movement: The gentle tossing and catching of a soft ball promotes hand-eye coordination, range of motion in the arms and shoulders, and keeps participants physically engaged in the activity.
Laughter and Fun: The playful nature of guessing, combined with the fun beach theme, creates a relaxed, joyful atmosphere that can lift spirits and create positive shared memories.

Materials Needed

A lightweight, soft ball (an inflatable beach ball is perfect for the theme).
Chairs for all participants.
A music player and a playlist of upbeat, beach-themed music (e.g., The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffett, surf rock).
Optional beach-themed decorations: battery-operated tiki torches, colorful leis for residents, seashells, or draping towels over chairs.
Optional themed snacks and drinks: tropical fruit punch, lemonade, goldfish crackers, or fruit skewers.
A whiteboard or large paper pad with a marker to write down statements, which can be helpful for residents with hearing difficulties or for keeping track of the options.
