Residents take turns tossing soft beanbags to knock down a pyramid of decorated tin cans. This game of skill can be played individually or in teams for friendly competition.

Purpose of the Activity

This classic carnival-style game is more than just fun; it provides a wonderful opportunity for residents to engage physically, socially, and emotionally. The primary goals are to:

Promote Physical Activity: Encourages hand-eye coordination, gentle arm movement, and range of motion.
Foster Social Interaction: Creates a lively and supportive atmosphere where residents can cheer for one another and engage in friendly competition.
Stimulate Cognitive Function: Involves simple counting for scorekeeping and basic strategy.
Evoke Nostalgia: The theme often brings back fond memories of fairs, carnivals, and childhood games.
Boost Self-Esteem: The simple act of knocking down the cans provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and success.

Materials Needed

10 clean, empty tin cans: Ensure all cans are washed, dried, and have no sharp edges. (Tip: Use a can opener that cuts the side of the can, not the top, to avoid sharp rims).
Decorating Supplies (Optional but Recommended): Colorful construction paper, wrapping paper, paint, markers, stickers, and glue.
4-6 soft beanbags: Use lightweight beanbags that are easy to grip and toss.
A sturdy table: To stack the cans on. A card table or folding table works perfectly.
A "throwing line" marker: Masking tape, a rope, or chalk for an outdoor space.
Scoreboard: A whiteboard, chalkboard, or a large sheet of paper to keep score.
Dry-erase markers or a pen.
Upbeat Music Playlist (Optional): Music from the 50s and 60s or carnival-themed tunes can enhance the atmosphere.
Small prizes (Optional): Fun, simple prizes like wrapped candies, small lotions, or "Bragging Rights" certificates.
