Join us for a joyful live music social! Tap your toes, sing along, and enjoy good company with refreshments.
Purpose of the Activity
This activity is designed to bring joy, connection, and a sense of community to residents through the universal language of music. Live music can evoke powerful memories, reduce stress and anxiety, and encourage emotional expression. The social setting promotes interaction among residents and staff, combating loneliness and fostering new friendships. It also provides an opportunity for gentle physical movement like clapping, toe-tapping, or dancing, which supports physical well-being.
Materials Needed
- A booked musical performer (e.g., guitarist, pianist, vocalist, small band).
- Appropriate seating for all residents, arranged to face the performance area.
- A designated performance space or "stage" for the musician with a chair and access to a power outlet if needed.
- A sound system or amplifier, if required by the musician.
- Decorations such as musical notes, streamers, or balloons to create a festive atmosphere.
- A table for refreshments.
- Light refreshments and beverages (e.g., cookies, fruit, punch, coffee).
- Cups, plates, and napkins.
- Small slips of paper and pens for song requests.
- A basket or box to collect song requests.
- Optional: Large-print lyric sheets for popular sing-along songs.
- Optional: Simple percussion instruments for residents (e.g., maracas, tambourines, egg shakers).
- A "Thank You" card for the musician, which residents can sign.
Estimated Duration
60 to 90 minutes. This allows enough time for the musical performance, socializing, and refreshments without being too long.
Ideal Group Size
10 to 30 residents. This range is large enough to feel festive but small enough for staff to provide individual attention and for the musician to connect with the audience. The size can be adjusted based on the room and staffing levels.
