Explore the romantic City of Light from your armchair! This multi-sensory journey to Paris features sights, sounds, and delicious French flavors.
Purpose of the Activity
Welcome to Paris! This activity is designed to transport residents to the beautiful "City of Light" without ever leaving their home. The goal is to stimulate the mind and the senses through a rich cultural experience. This journey promotes cognitive engagement by encouraging memory recall and learning new facts. It also fosters social connection as residents share stories and experiences. By incorporating sights, sounds, tastes, and smells, we create a multi-sensory environment that is both enjoyable and therapeutic.
Materials Needed
Visuals: A high-quality travel documentary or virtual walking tour of Paris on a large-screen television. Alternatively, use a projector, large tablet, or a collection of large, colorful photo books and laminated pictures of Parisian landmarks (Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, etc.).
Audio: A playlist of classic French music (like Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, or instrumental accordion music) to play softly in the background.
Taste and Smell: French-themed snacks and drinks. Consider croissants, madeleines, macarons, or a simple baguette with butter and jam. For drinks, offer sparkling cider (as "champagne"), coffee, or tea. A lavender or fresh-baked bread scent diffuser can also enhance the atmosphere.
Decorations: French flags (small tabletop or larger ones), red, white, and blue streamers or tablecloths, and posters of Paris. Fresh flowers like lavender or roses can add a nice touch.
Props: Fun, optional props like berets, scarves, or costume pearls can make the experience more immersive and are great for photos.
Information: A printed sheet with a few simple French phrases (Bonjour, Merci, Au revoir) and interesting fun facts about Paris.
